"Small Corner"

You laugh at the way I hum off-key,
like it's the funniest thing in the world.
I pretend to be offended,
but really, I like that you notice.
The sunlight catches in your hair,
and I swear it's unfair how it makes you glow.
You nudge me with your shoulder-
I nudge back, harder.

We share the same jacket sometimes,
and the sleeves are too long but it doesn't matter.
I steal food from your plate,
you steal my jacket back with a grin.
Even when the music is loud,
I only hear you humming along beside me.
It's not a competition, it's just you
And somehow, that's enough.

Later, we sit on the steps outside,
kicking our shoes at the sky.
You point out clouds that look like cats,
and I argue that the one shaped like a fish is clearly a dragon.
We both laugh anyway.
I glance at you, you glance at me,
and the world feels like it's always supposed to fit
exactly here, in this small corner with you.
